Hi! My name is Amanda/August Yuan (she/he) and I am a first generation Chinese-American studying design and cognitive science at UC Davis. I’m interested in making sense of knotted histories through my poems, photography, and animation. I enjoy reading poetry and I hope to enter the publishing or illustration industry to illustrate stories about queer asian mental health and generational trauma. Beyond the scope of illustration, I also enjoy speculative design where I can merge my love for science fiction and cognitive science to envision and design futures that expand on our capacity for joy, love, and empathy.
I believe my role as a designer is to evoke emotion, provoke questions, and inspire imagination!
& the role of design in general is to push the boundaries of the collective imagination on what’s possible.
My design process is guided by cross-disciplinary research, historical precedents, and building close connections with the people I am designing for.
